Part IX: Zombies Of Wall Street

Intro

Zombies of Wall Street is a 2D interactive shooter where the user has to kill as much possible zombies as he can, before the Horde devours him.

The Idea

Despite the fact that the above concept might seem as quite a common and childish idea, it is actually not. This game will not be a simple 2D shooter, but many data of the game will change depending on many circumstances. For example, the player’s and the zombies’ speed will depend on the temperature of the area the user is living in. The colder the environment, the slower the movement speed of both the user and the zombies ( but mostly in favour of the zombies!). At the same time I will try to implement different weather effects, such as snow and rain in order to match the weather of certain locations.

The dynamic weather system was inspired by one of my favourite video games, which I also consider as an artistic masterpiece, not only  because of it’s visuals, but also because of it’s amazing storyline which is the Wither 3: Wild Hunt. In the game, the developers managed to create amazing weather visuals that will constantly change and, thus they would provide the user with an incredible atmosphere while playing. On the other, I have yet to see a video game that is using live weather and therefore, I find it as an extremely interesting for me to accomplish. Furthermore, I want to give the user the feeling that he is fighting in his country, or that he is travelling in a place, since the many factors of the game will change depending on the location the user selects. Below you can see two of the next generation games that have implemented amazing dynamic weather systems.

Next, the other database I would like to use is the international currency rates, since in the past years I am really interested in the stock market as well as learning about the global economy and its trends. For that reason, even if it sounds crazy, the player’s damage will depend on the selected country’s currency against the EURO. Therefore, the close it’s value to the EURO, the higher the weapon’s damage. Furthermore, these rates change daily so it will be harder for the user to get used to the game since many basic components of the game can change daily depending on numerous of global factors, thus the name of the game Zombies of Wall Street, since the player’s damage depends on global currency and not in just a weapon.

The audience for this game are mostly teens or even adults, since it can be an interesting time killer and therefore anyone can use it. Furthermore, since in two days I will not be able to produce a groundbreaking and changing app, I thought that by making a relatively simple video game that is constantly changing depending on numerous international values can change the peoples’ opinions and thoughts about the world we live and how events in different countries can change directly or indirectly our lives. Therefore, in the long-term this video game can have a high significance since it will show the users on how many different international factors could affect their lives in numerous and different ways.

Challenges

My main challenge is to create decent animations as well as moving ones and manage to create a proper collision technique that will ensure that shot zombies are damaged. Furthermore, another challenge is to see how all these different global values are affecting the play style of the game and which factors shall I take into account. Also, combining all these factors could prove quite hard, but I would also like to think of more creating ways on how the user could aim, shoot or walk around. I am also considering a potential use of the Kinect or the Webcam in order to assist me for this purpose. Another final though I had is for the user to use a pen to aim by attaching close to the Webcam or a Kinect, and the player’s barrel will change direction depending on the objects direction

Conclusion

In conclusion, I hope to achieve as many of these challenges as possible as well as create an enjoyable and quality game that also is innovative, by bringing new aspects that other games lack. I am looking forward to discussing any changes and tips from you.
